Development of British Kittens

1. TEETH

• Milk teeth appear: 2–3 weeks
• All milk teeth erupt by 6–8 weeks
• Permanent teeth start to replace milk teeth at 3–4 months
• All permanent teeth are usually in place by 6–7 months

2. FUR

• Kittens are born with soft, short fur
• First “kitten fluff” develops around 2–3 weeks
• Juvenile coat replaces kitten fur at 3–4 months
• Adult dense coat forms by 9–12 months
• Longhair British kittens (Briella Longhair) develop their full mane closer to 1 year

3. EYE COLOR

• Kittens are usually blue or gray at birth
• Eye color gradually changes:
  • 4–6 weeks – initial shade appears
  • 8–12 weeks – color becomes more defined
  • 3–6 months – near-final color
• Adult British cats’ eyes are typically vibrant: amber, green, or blue (depending on coat color)
