Switching Your Kitten to a New Food

arrow_backback

A kitten’s digestive system is sensitive, so food changes should always be made gradually over 7 days.

Transition Schedule

  • Days 1–2: 75% current food / 25% new food
  • Days 3–4: 50% current food / 50% new food
  • Days 5–6: 25% current food / 75% new food
  • Day 7: 100% new food

Dry and Wet Food

  • You may feed dry food, wet food, or a combination of both
  • If introducing both, change one item at a time
  • Dry food should always be available for grazing
  • Wet food is best served fresh, 2–3 times per day

Important Notes

  • Fresh water must be available at all times
  • Avoid food changes during stressful periods (moving, vaccinations)
  • If soft stool, diarrhea, or vomiting occurs, return to the previous step and slow the transition

Our Recommendation

We recommend high-quality kitten food (premium or super-premium) available in Canada and formulated specifically for growing kittens.

💡 Staying with one brand and one protein source helps prevent digestive issues.
